Supervision Services in Texas

Bridging the Gap Between Your Degree and Your Career

Hi, I’m Heather Callihan, LPC-Supervisor. Finding the right supervisor often feels like navigating a complex maze without a map. You are at a critical crossroads where you may not know which questions to ask, how to truly vet a supervisor, or—most importantly—how to identify the professional blind spots you haven't encountered yet.

I understand the pressure. You cannot secure a job or begin your 3,000 hours without a supervisor in place. It is a high-stakes hurdle, but you don’t have to clear it alone.

Potential Associates

I am always interviewing potential Associates, but I am intentionally selective. I am looking for professionals who embody the following:

  • Self-Driven: You don’t wait for permission to grow; you take the initiative and own your professional development.

  • Clinically Brave: You are prepared to move past the "tip of the iceberg" to explore the deep, often difficult roots of client trauma and behavior.

  • Coachable: You view constructive feedback as a catalyst for excellence rather than a personal slight.

  • Committed to Professional Mastery: You are hungry to perfect your foundational theory while mastering the "business" of the profession—from advanced case conceptualization to legally sound documentation.

Understanding Our Professional Fit

To ensure our partnership is successful, it is important to be clear about my supervision boundaries from the start:

  • No Private Practice: I do not enter into agreements with Associates planning to launch their own private practice while under supervision. The professional liability is simply too high.

  • Clinical Philosophy: If you subscribe to Gender Affirming Care (GAC) models, specifically for the under-18 demographic, we will not be a compatible fit. I hold this boundary without exception.

  • Texas-Centered Ethics: My supervision does not utilize the ACA Code of Ethics. In this state, Texas Law and the Licensee Rulebook are the sole ethical and legal authorities. I train my Associates to be experts in the rules that actually govern their Texas license.

Beyond the Clinical: Learning the Business

My Expectations: I expect my supervisees to work hard. I don’t demand perfection, but I do demand effort. You should expect regular homework, research, and formal case presentations. In return, you receive:

  • Weekly Individual Supervision

  • Monthly Group Supervision

  • Operational Training: Compliance, the legalities of employment/contracting, and how to run a compliant practice—the things they didn't teach you in grad school.

What Makes You Stand Out?

What separates you from the hundreds of other Associates in Texas? Your story. Most new counselors struggle because they can’t articulate why they do what they do. We will work together to craft your professional narrative. When you can communicate your "why" with confidence, you become an asset that employers and future clients are eager to find.

Invest in Excellence, Not Just the Minimums

You have already committed years of your life and a significant financial investment to earn your degrees. Now is not the time to look for the cheapest or "easiest" path to full licensure.

Your true education is just beginning. To be direct: high-level supervisors choose to mentor the next generation as a way to give back, often at a financial sacrifice compared to our clinical hours. Because of this, don't "wing" your interview with a potential mentor. Show up with the same level of professionalism you would bring to a high-stakes job interview.

Your Professional Interview Checklist

I strongly encourage you to interview several candidates before making a decision. Don't leave your career trajectory to chance or "hope it works out." You need a structured way to ensure your supervisor’s vision and ethics align with your own.

Ready to Start?

Before you reach out, I ask that you be honest with yourself regarding these three pillars:

  1. What specifically do I want to accomplish?

  2. What does a successful career look like for me?

  3. What am I willing to sacrifice to get there?

I look forward to speaking with you soon.
